Beautiful place year round. Updated food area and bath house. Lots of walking and biking trails. Numerous photo opportunities. Quiet beaches.
Overall, it was a great experience. We had a wonderful day at the park. I would definitely recommend to visit it!
When we were there (26 June) the water was too cold to swim. Also, unfortunately the most interesting part of the park (sandspit) is closed because of bird sanctuary.
You can rent a bike there (no cost) and explore trails, see old fort, climb towers, fish, drive on the beach.
In all fairness, my review is based on the beach only - since that's the only area I have explored so far. Entrance fee is $10 cash only - be prepared, I had to turn around and drive a few miles to downtown Lewes before I got to an ATM. The person at the gate was very friendly. The beach was very clean, very quiet, and very uncrowded, but not totally empty - honestly, it was perfect. The dunes around the beach are very pretty as well. It looked like there were bathrooms/showers across from the parking lot, though we didn't use them. I look forward to returning to see more of the park, since it looked really lovely while we drove through.
The park has a beach with shallow water which is perfect for kids. Kids can see fish, snails and other interesting creatures there.
Beautiful nature location. Walking and biking avail. Historic site, near more touristy beaches.
We love to go to cape henlopen every time we come to the DE seashore. There are a few different entrances that give beach access. One leads to the fishing pier which also has bathrooms, a pavillion & a place to rent kayaks & sups by the hour or by the day. Short walk to the beach & is nice for kids because the water is shallow & at low tide it goes way out so lots of people dig for clams ( need a license). There is also the drive out beach which you do need a special pass to do but if you drive out, you must be actively fishing ( you pole must be in the water) & you need to have a shovel, board and fishing tackle with you. The park rangers do check! You also can walk out at any of these places. Herring point is where mist people walk out & surf because of the rock wall breaker there. The only thing to note is that this beach can be buggy, especially with onshore wind so remember the bug spray and it gets crowded here so you may have to walk a little ways down the road to get to the beach. There are also educational centers here and activities. People can also camp here. There is a park pass that you must purchase and rates are different for in-state & out of state visitors. Check the website for more detailed information.
